About the Artist

Patrick Imai is a self-taught artist who has carved for more than 50 years. He initially carved in wood, whittling small figures and animals, then in the late 90’s he tried carving soapstone.  He was captivated by the colour and texture of the finished soapstone and has since worked in serpentine, alabaster, selenite and marble.  Patrick has a passion for carving bears seeking to capture movement and emotion in stone.
