Parent and Child – Soapstone Carving – Bears

Learn how to carve Soapstone using hand tools. This course is for one parent and up to 2 children (10 years old and older). No previous experience is necessary. From partially shaped blocks of soapstone, participants will be guided through the carving process of shaping, sanding and polishing to produce bears like the ones in the photo: one by the parent and the other by the child.  Tools and materials are provided. Students are responsible for personal protection: safety glasses (optional), gloves (optional), closed toe shoes. Adult dust masks are available. Coffee and water will be provided.
